Alcohol Ink Art - The Four Flowers

Never lose the child-like wonder.
It's just too important. It's what drives us.
Randy Pausch

This painting was created with Alcohol Inks and
was inspired by Blue Chicory Wildflowers.

Alcohol Ink Art - Against The Mountains

Painting is a simple exercise
in tension elimination.
- Joseph E. Criscuoli

I was recently at one of our Art events where someone was demonstrating the use of
Alcohol Inks.  I found it to be such a soothing medium to work with.

Painting is the act of discovery and you're constantly enlarging your horizon or finding yourself every time you paint.

What are those green things on the forest floor?

These are the first "green things" of late winter/early spring
I find in the forest (along with ferns).  These pop up before
the wildflowers.
I wondered what they were.

I have found out that they are called Fan Clubmoss
also known as Ground Cedar and also known as Bears Paw in Southwest Virginia (where I am)

Wikipedia has some great info on this plant - HERE

These were seen during my walk along
Deerfield Trail in Blacksburg, VA on 02-21-18

Trees in The Forest

Pink Coneflower - Flowers of Summer

“We cannot tell the precise moment when friendship is formed. As in filling a vessel drop by drop, there is at last a drop which makes it run over; so in a series of kindnesses there is at last one which makes the heart run over.”
 ― Ray Bradbury

Black Vulture

“Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.”

Not what one would think of as a "beautiful bird" but they are so very beneficial!

Spring Beginnings Along The Creek - Deerfield Trail Blacksburg, Virginia

“Spring drew on...and a greenness grew over those brown beds, which, freshening daily, suggested the thought that Hope traversed them at night, and left each morning brighter traces of her steps.”
 ― Charlotte Brontë

Messy Weather

We often hear of bad weather, but in reality, no weather is bad. It is all delightful, though in different ways. Some weather may be bad for farmers or crops, but for man all kinds are good. Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating. As Ruskin says, "There is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather."
~ John Lubbock
